Hey friends,
I woke up on the wrong side of the bed last week. Then I learned that it was Neurodiversity Celebration Week, and I understood why.
I spent the whole week on LinkedIn reading about influencer neurodiversity advocates speaking about their neurodivergence all over the UK. It’s the same stuff I always hear. Usually ADHD and autism, with a sprinkle of dyslexia and a few other neurodivergence in the mix, but that’s about it (and I actively look for other influencers to follow too. Remember, I wrote a book about this stuff!)
But y’all, I always smdh when I have to remind people that neurodiversity means ALL BRAINS. Neurodiversity does not have the same meaning as neurodivergent. We study etymology for a reason. Hard eye-roll.
Anyway, this whole mood got me thinking about what we never heard about during this week and why that is. And that led me to a realisation. You definitely won’t be learning about “personality disorders” in the workplace on LinkedIn this week and forget about any decent attempt at intersectionality either. It’s about finding the token Black person or including that one BIPOC presentation slide over amongst a sea of whiteness.
